Richard Akers is a Technical Consultant with CTS. He has been a developer for almost 10 years now, in both the Java and Microsoft technology spaces. He just recently moved over to Mobile from across the bay, and working on a masters degree in Computer Information Systems at the University of South Alabama. When not working or at school, he spends most of his free time playing with his home network or crawling around cyberspace to find new and interesting uses for the Web. Rich is an avid user of Cloud technologies, with social networking accounts, blogs, and web services spread all over the net. Rich has been a part of LANUG since January ’09.

Topic: Social Networking for Modern Developers

Do you Tweet at work? How up to date is your Blog? When you hear the term ‘Cloud’, do you think of more than just a rainy day? Social networking, when used properly, has always been a valuable tool for any professional these days. However, the more connected we get, the more important these social networks become. I intend to discuss the pros and cons of social networking, highlighting various sites, tools, and activities on the web that every developer should be familiar with. I’ll talk about your blogs, why you should have them, and what you should or shouldn’t put on them. Time permitting, I might even be able to justify the existence of Twitter! By the end of the discussion, everyone should have a better idea of ways to use the cloud both personally and professionally.

Location: Mobile Information Technology (MIT) 651 Church St Mobile, AL 36602
